Dreaming of a tropical getaway? You can bring the serenity of palm trees into your home with a little bit of paint and some creative décor. Whether you want to try your hand at painting your own palm tree masterpiece or find a beautiful piece of art, this post will provide you with some inspiration.

Part 1: Painting Your Own Palm Tree

Background

  • Start by creating a vibrant background. One technique involves using a chip brush and colors like purple, pink, and mint, spreading them in a figure-8 pattern. Let the colors blend to create a beautiful wash. You can also dab blue paint with a paper towel on the top for an extra touch.
  • Alternatively, use light blue and white for the sky, green and bright blue for the ocean, and tan and white for the beach.
  • You can also start with a base layer of burnt sienna to warm up your painting.

Palm Tree Trunks

  • Mix brown and white paint to add dimension to the trunk. Paint a curved line for the trunk's shape. Add a brown shadow on one side, and then use a liner brush and black paint to add details.
  • Use dark brown with tan highlights. For a fun twist, add some "smiley faces" with a toothpick before the paint dries. Don’t worry, you can paint over it if needed. Add shadows at the base using tan and brown.

Palm Fronds

  • Start with Kelly Green as a base, then layer with Irish Moss paint.
  • Use a fan brush to pull out and down from a guideline at the top of the trunk, starting with a dark green and layering with medium and darker greens.
  • Experiment with a mixture of ultramarine blue, cadmium yellow deep, burnt sienna, and titanium white for the fronds. Flick the brush to create leaflets.

Finishing Touches

  • Add highlights using white paint.
  • Use a dish sponge to create a frothy effect on the waterline.
